| Folic acid blood testing helps doctors diagnose central nervous system disorders and anemia. This important nutrient also plays a role in our energy level, muscle strength, and memory. Folic acid is derived solely from dietary intake such as egg yolks, beef, poultry, and fish. Many people are deficient in this important nutrient. Instructions Fasting is not required for this test. Take all medications as prescribed. Supplements containing folic acid should be avoided for 3-5 days preceding the test. Note Measuring the amount of folate within the red blood cell is a more reliable test than a serum measurement. |
