Autoimmune Disease Screen Blood Test

Item # LC100041

Extensive screen for autoimmune disorders including antinuclear antibodies (ANA), C-reactive protein (CRP), Rheumatoid Factor (RF), Complement C3, Complement C4 and immunoglobins IgA/, IgG/IgM.

This panel contains the following tests:

  • Antinuclear Antibodies (ANA) Screen
    • ANAs reflect the immune system’s attack on the body’s own cells. A primary test to help evaluate a person for autoimmune diseases.
  • Cardiac C-Reactive Protein (hs-CRP/Cardiac CRP)
    • Inflammation can arise from a variety of sources including autoimmune concerns. Elevated CRP is an indication of inflammation throughout your body.
  • Rheumatoid Factor (RF)
    • Rheumatoid factors (RF) are antibodies directed against components of the immune system and the joints. Rheumatoid factor is elevated in the majority of individuals with rheumatoid arthritis and elevations are also associated with other connective tissue disorders.
  • Complement C3
    • Complement C3 is an important protein involved with inflammatory and immune response. Lower Complement C3 levels are associated with active autoimmune disorders and can be associated with the risk of infectious diseases.
  • Complement C4
    • Complement C4 is another essential protein involved with normal immune function and inflammatory response. Deficiency of Complement C4 has been linked to inflammatory skin concerns,  immune complex diseases, and most commonly associated with SLE (Systemic Lupus erythematosus) and rheumatoid vasculitis.
  • Immunoglobulins IgA, IgG, IgM
Immunoglobulin Increased in these autoimmune diseases

IgG

Chronic infection, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, connective tissue disease, multiple sclerosis1,2

IgM

Infection, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus2

IgA

Chronic infections (especially of the GI tract), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), rheumatoid arthritis, lupus2

People experience initial symptoms that are often intermittent and unspecific until a disease becomes acute. This is why it is so important to identify an autoimmune disease early while there is still time to intervene. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) estimates that up to 23.5 million Americans are living with an autoimmune disease. In comparison, cancer affects up to 9 million and heart disease up to 22 million. Researchers have identified 80-100 different autoimmune diseases and suspect at least 40 additional diseases of having an autoimmune basis.3 These diseases are chronic and can be life-threatening. In fact, the prevalence of autoimmune diseases seems to be increasing and is one of the top 10 causes of death in women up to 64 years of age.3

Instructions

Results took a little longer to receive than tests ordered by a provider. However, the results were accurate and led my provider to order additional testing.
