Life Extension Track Record

Impeccable track record of 40 years of scientific achievement

Life Extension has led the world uncovering new ways to prevent and treat the diseases of aging since 1980. We’ve unveiled innovative treatment protocols in our Life Extension Magazine® years before they were recognized by conventional medicine. Today, many of the advances we’ve championed have become standard medical practice. Below is a chronology of those advances and achievements, spanning over an incredible four decades.

  • After realizing that that trace mineral lithium had near-unparalleled potential for extending human lifespan, Life Extension forwent its traditional production schedule to alert readers. Lithium, specifically in 1,000 mcg doses, was not readily available to the public—so Life Extension made it so, giving people access to this low-cost, high-value nutrient for longevity and cognitive health support.
  • Recognizing that nocturia is a common symptom that goes under-reported (and thus, under-treated) in men, Life Extension scientists set about testing a novel combination of melatonin, beta sitosterol, lycopene and boron in an open-label clinical trial. The results showed great promise for those seeking non-pharmaceutical therapies for frequent, sleep-disrupting nighttime urination. The results of the study were published in Global Advances in Health and Medicine.
  • Poor uptake of curcumin continues to vex the health sciences community. Believing that the novel combination of curcumin with galactomannan fibers from fenugreek seeds could have absorptive benefits in humans, Life Extension scientists conducted a clinical trial and found strong evidence that this curcumin formulation does indeed permeate the blood-brain barrier, paving the way for significant health benefits. The results are published in the Journal of Nutritional Neuroscience.
  • Osteoporosis affects millions of people worldwide. So when Life Extension learned of research that showed 45,000 mcg of a particular form of vitamin K2 (menaquinone-4) can actually increase bone density and reduce risk of fractures by encouraging the activity of bone-building osteoblast cells, we immediately made it known to our audience that this hard-to-find dosage is now available without a prescription.

  • Life Extension presented new research that indicates that phellodendron bark extract can help boost levels of the feel-good neurotransmitter dopamine (which is also essential to cognitive function) by inhibiting activity of an enzyme called monoamine oxidase B. This offers those seeking both mood and cognitive health support an alternative to potentially risky anti-depressant drugs.
  • A study undertaken by Life Extension’s senior scientific staff discovered that specialized pro-resolving mediators from marine oil significantly improved infection clearance in preclinical models. These wonderous compounds also show tremendous promise in the context of inflammatory lung conditions, acute respiratory syndrome, and even chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
  • After learning that significant misconceptions about vitamin C was hampering use of this essential nutrient, Life Extension scientists developed a liposomal vitamin C combined with a galactomannan hydrogel that allowed for optimal, 24-hour coverage to be achieved—without the waste (and false assumptions) produced by other high-dose vitamin C solutions.
