How to Stay Comfortable After You Eat
Cured meats, cheeses, wine, and other histamine-rich foods make for a delicious charcuterie board, but not everyone can digest these treats comfortably. Our plant-based DAO formula helps relieve occasional non-allergy digestive discomfort associated with intestinal dietary histamine sensitivity. One more thing: many DAO formulas utilize enzymes derived from animals—usually pork. But our formula uses diamine oxidase from pea sprouts. It’s got the same capacity to break down histamine as animal-based DAO…no pork bellies required.

FAQ
What is histamine?
Histamine is a compound that plays a role in the body’s immune response. It is released in the body and can be produced by gut bacteria. Histamine can also be found in or increased by many foods and drinks. Excessive levels of histamine in the gut can cause occasional gastrointestinal-related discomfort including gas and bloating. The body has several enzymes that help break down this compound.
What types of foods are considered histamine-rich?
Histamine-rich foods and drinks are very common. Some of these include cured and deli meats, different types of cheese, alcoholic beverages like wine and beer, oily fish and even certain fruits and vegetables like citrus, tomatoes and strawberries.
Is histamine sensitivity considered an allergy?
No, histamine sensitivities are considered a sensitivity to histamine ingested from foods. Food sensitivities are the body’s response to compounds in the food you eat, sometimes referred to as food intolerances. Sensitivities are not considered to be the same as an allergic reaction. They may manifest in the form of occasional gastrointestinal discomforts.
More >Does this product break down whole-body histamine?

What is diamine oxidase (DAO)?
Diamine oxidase (DAO) is an enzyme produced by the body that breaks down histamine and is the primary way the body metabolizes histamine in the GI tract. Its activity is measured in HDU, or histamine degrading units. It can be more difficult for people with low levels of DAO to maintain a healthy balance of histamine.
What is in Food Sensitivity Relief with Diamine Oxidase (DAO)?
Food Sensitivity Relief with Diamine Oxidase contains 20,000 HDU of the enzyme diamine oxidase (DAO), derived from pea sprouts. HDU stands for histamine degrading units and is a measure of enzyme activity.
Who is Food Sensitivity Relief with Diamine Oxidase intended for?
Food Sensitivity Relief with Diamine Oxidase is intended for those who need help breaking down and metabolizing histamine in the gut and alleviating occasional discomforts associated with dietary histamine sensitivity.
When can I expect an effect?
In a study of people who took DAO immediately after eating histamine-rich foods, benefits were seen immediately. More long-term effects were observed after taking DAO daily for 4-8 weeks. Everybody is unique, however, so the time it takes to notice benefits can vary from person to person. We suggest following the study duration to determine product efficacy.
When is the best time to take Food Sensitivity Relief with Diamine Oxidase? Should it be taken with food or on an empty stomach?
